& your soul is all i ever wanted
little bit of humour from Beloit fall 07

One day this sign appeared all over campus

GO VEGETARIAN!!!!! (VEGETARIAN ALREADY? TRY VEGAN!!!)

(pic of dog and calf)

"We all love animals. Why do we call some pets and others dinner?" ~k.d. lang

For your health:
- Vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat eaters.
- Research has shown that vegetarians are 50 percent less likely to develop heart disease, and the have 40 percent of the cancer rate of meat eaters. Plus, meat eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are.

For the environment:
- Nearly half of the water and 80 percent of the agricultural land in the United States are used to raise animals for food.
Animals raised for food produce 130 times as much excrement as the entire US population, roughly 89,000 pounds per second, all without the benefit of waste treatment systems.

For the animals and people too:
- In nature, pigs live for 15 years, but pigs on factory farms are sent to slaughter after just six months of life.
- In the U.S., more than 41 million cows suffer and die for the meat and dairy industries every year
- Chickens are arguably the most abused animal on the planet. Each year in the United States, 9 billion chickens are killed for their flesh and 245 million hens are raised for their eggs
- The meat industry preys upon a workforce made up of impoverished immigrants who can never complain about poor working conditions or cruelty to animals for fear of being reported
- According to a recent report by Compassion in World Farming (SIC) "crops that could be used to feed the hungry are instead being used to fatten animals raised for food/" It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of edible animal flesh

A few days later, this sign came up:

CANNIBALISM
Vegetarians and Vegans getting you down? Confused about your options? Here are some things you need to know:

FACT: By eating people we are keeping th world population low.

FACT: People, unlike cows, are not cute.
FACT: We are eliminating the need for agriculture, an industry known to be run by Satan.

FACT: Animals will live longer lives and possibly get the vote.

FACT: We only eat free range vegans.

FACT: We are lowering the waste of humans by eating them.

FACT: More jobs and homes will open up.

FACT: According to Cannibalism Weekly fourteen out of ten people are cannibals today. We hold prominent positions in the spheres of business, education and the government.

FACT: Cannibalism helps you maintain a healthy diet of protein.

FACT: Cannibals make no waste. We use the entire human body. Livers make great soccer balls.

FACT: We live on this campus tpp and deserve your respect and limbs. Delish.

BTYB: Your friendly Campus Cannibals

Hope you enjoyed that. Kchan

'I dreamt that I was composing a symphony....I had gone to my table to begin writing it down when I suddenly reflected: "If I write this part I shall let myself be carried on to write the rest. The natural tendency of my mind to expand the material is sure to make it very long...When the symphony is finished I shall be weak enough to allow my copyist to copy it out, and thus immediately incur a debt of 1,000 or 1,200 francs. Once the parts are copied I shall be harassed by the temptation to have the work performed; I shall give a concert in which, as is sure to be the case in these days, the receipts will barely cover half the expenses; I shall lose what I have not got; I shall want the necessaries of life for my poor invalid, and shall have no money for either myself or for my son's keep on board ship!"...I threw down my pen saying, "Bah! I shall have forgotten the symphony tomorrow." But the following night the obstinate symphony again presented itself...'
- Berlioz writing about a nightmare he had during the 1850s
