& your soul is all i ever wanted

Chinese New Year passes all too soon...

and it's back to work tomorrow for the ever waiting to get to the USA Xtine...

sigh.......... and of course I have not prepared my lessons since we've been visiting and I've also been bugging my daddy to FILL MY FORMS....

How was CNY for me? Great! It's nice to be at home as looong as I want, though I could certainly do without the spring cleaning...

(and I'm now filling incometax forms with my dad....sigh)

Anyway just earlier this evening I accompanied dad to Giant to purchase some stuff forhis office and our house (yes I need my smooth peanut butter, only Skippy accepted please). Quite a few things struck me and I'd like to put them here for contemplation.

1) Gardenia. Remember that familiar tune "Ooo Gardenia~ So good you can even eat it on its own!" As I was at the bread section to grab 2 loaves of bread, I noticed that the racks were almost empty. No sign of Gardenia wheatbread so I turned to leave, and overheard a girl saying "Gardenia dah habis lah" (translation: There's no more Gardenia). As I reported to Dad that there was no bread left, he scoffed and pushed the trolley towards the Bakery section anyway. So there we were, and as my dad contemplated which of the non-Gardeia brands to buy, I was struck by the deep impression that product loyalty has left on me (a better example is the Skippy peanut butter though. I ONLY eat Skippy smooth peanut butter). Perhaps all those 14 years of 'Oooo Gardenia~' have really influenced me to be unlikely to eat ANY other bread. Unsurprisingly, my dad finally opted for 2 types of OTHER Gardenia bread which were more expensive than the other non-Gardenia breads. I for one, am not complaining until I can bake my own bread.

2) Shopping carts
Do you notice how most Malaysians seem to cart all their purchases to their lovely cars and then just dump the trolleys around the parking lot. This is of course, when you don't have to put in RM 1 into the push cart but since RM1 coins are now invalid I guess the shopping carts are for the moment free of charge and free for dumping. Which brought a flashback of my sister actually carting the cart all the way from our parking space to the place where they keep the carts. How many of us here DO that? Few in number, judging from the number of trolleys I passed as we headed to the car. Of course, we didn't cart the trolley either.....(and yet I am still commenting about it). I wonder if in other countries, more civic minded and considerate people cart back their shopping carts. After all, most of the carts I saw were disgustingly abandoned behind other peoples' cars, one was even at the side of the "main" road!! That was utterly disgusting. Since you aren't going to bother to cart it back, PLEASE don't make yourself more of a nuisance and ABANDON the cart where it blocks others' cars? It makes people annoyed you know. How would you feel if I decided to surround your car with abandoned shopping carts so that you'd have to move every single one of them to get into your car and drive home? And as for the nuisance who decided that carts belong at the side of the road to make driver's lives more difficult, why don't you just scratch your car on the cart you just abandoned? It owuld really make my day.

Venom aside, it's sad that we are such an inconsiderate bunch of people.

So Malaysians, just because tourists may not be visiting Giant for Visit Malaysia 2007 does not mean that we should push headlong into the path of inconsideration of others. All I can say is, what goes around, comes around.

'I dreamt that I was composing a symphony....I had gone to my table to begin writing it down when I suddenly reflected: "If I write this part I shall let myself be carried on to write the rest. The natural tendency of my mind to expand the material is sure to make it very long...When the symphony is finished I shall be weak enough to allow my copyist to copy it out, and thus immediately incur a debt of 1,000 or 1,200 francs. Once the parts are copied I shall be harassed by the temptation to have the work performed; I shall give a concert in which, as is sure to be the case in these days, the receipts will barely cover half the expenses; I shall lose what I have not got; I shall want the necessaries of life for my poor invalid, and shall have no money for either myself or for my son's keep on board ship!"...I threw down my pen saying, "Bah! I shall have forgotten the symphony tomorrow." But the following night the obstinate symphony again presented itself...'
