& your soul is all i ever wanted

brief glimpse of my existance

hmm... since the last time I blogged life has been a whirlwind of activity with a short span of peace clipped in between Malaysia and Singapore. Might as well pick up where I left off, I hope I have time, I'm actually waiting for my laundry and to go out.

Erm, I had a nice looong chat with Joan and Mak on Friday night. And it was super nice of them to come on such short notice at such a late time at night. *terharu* I bet they won't read this though, so not much to comment. Just that its SO good to talk to people I've grown up with again. Wish I could have seen hamei and everyone else but due to my blurness-cum-stupidity I didn't get to. Had to settle for a phonecall for hamei the next morning at 6.30am. haha.

Saturday morning we headed for Asahan, had beef noodles along the way...ahhh even though they weren't very good and were rather expensive since they have a monopoly!!!! in Tangkak I must say... I love chinese pickled ..vegetable!! Had a nice day and a half in Asahan, gorgeous atmosphere, nice people, very nice time!! Have a short musing to express on account of a reply I received from a Singaporean based on my positive comments on CIP. He said that they could be quite a waste of resources and can make the people of the country concerned dependent on CIP. Well after thinking about it, I'd say that if you give help in the right way it would of course not make these people dependent on CIP from outsiders. So what is help in the right way? Take for example han ren's CIP trip to Vietnam, where they helped in building a community library in a village. I'd say that if you give help in education, it certainly is NOT a waste of resources, these people barely even have resources to begin with sometimes!! Besides this, I'd say that many Singaporean adolescents also need the exposure. Especially after practially growing up in a concrete jungle, village life offers one so many perspectives on life and is really an enriching experience. I'd learn a lot too if I had the chance to do overseas CIP! In conclusion, I would say to judge overseas CIP as a waste of resources is, well, putting it in too negative a light, while overly praising it would do the same. Organise it in the right way and I'm certain the benefits would be plentiful. I'm basing all this on whatever I've heard from people who've gone overseas by the way, its not a first hand encounter.

Back in Singapore on Sunday night. sighhhh. got heaps to report but I need to run down soon! So i'll say its nice to see all my classmates again, and my dear room mates! And I'll post about my results after i get geepee next week. And also about my Traditional Chinese Medicine experience. Will add a photo for.... added emphasis so look forward to that post!! life is busy it is time to start mugging again!! but before that, something I saw on Eld's blog and Ai-chan's deviantart. can't resist...

10 things about my art -- since Eld tagged EVERYONE...

1. Conventionally, I love to draw and watercolour. Was introduced to the world of CG officially by Ai-chan, but my seconday school classmate, Ammar Syamimi had already been exhibiting and extolling the benefits of photoshop back then. haha. My CG is....not spectacular and hopefully I'll work on it!! Drawing I prefer pencil work (as you can see in my Multiply where I upload some of my work) and I haven't watercoloured much since my beloved box of watercolours died T.T

2. Hm I like doing collages too. So I guess its paper work, where I once folded a kimono based on Kaoru in a Rurouni Kenshin artbook I have. Still have it, and Jap can remember it too! Did that in form 3. Right now the only paper work I do is for cards which I give to people. Much better than buying them, saves money and has the personal touch! Only thing is may be a bit time consuming.

3. I guess I can bring in writing like Eld did. haha WRITING IS AN ART. Only I believe my writing is mediocre, have yet to really improve on it! Highest award I have won for my writing is the Commonwealth essay one, which you can also find on my Multiply website.

4. Back to pencil work, generally I still draw simplistic female figures with little background and LOTS of focus on the hair and sometimes clothes. Need to learn how to do backgrounds. And draw the male gender. If I get to draw a male looking subject successfully it's by random chance and and.... and.... looks quite female/gay. hahahahaha. sad!!!! Still looking for my style so I draw lots of random things.

5. I stalk people in public when I feel like drawing more life-like looking people. Usually occurs in the MRT and in pursuit of perfecting my art i LOVE to scrutinise people I see in public. So I guess I kind of stare a lot at eyes, noses, mouths, shoes, feet and outfits. HAHAHAHA. oh dear. I draw my own hand too, because of a couple of experiences with mehandi. Workk, again (!) is on my Multiply.

6. Er....I've run out of things. I don't compose music otherwise that'd be another form of art....

7. lalalala

8. errrrrr..... (i have to go get my laundry)

9. Oh i like to draw wine glasses and shade them. Learnt how to shade in form 1 and 2 in art class in klang. Was on water colour when I for some inexplainable reason stopped. Sigh..... and Arti broke one of my dark shading pencils by sitting on it. Also have an assortment of art pens from Japan that I don't dare to use because I'm not really sure how to use them. But I will learn!!!

10. (FINALLY last one) What I want to do next? Learn chinese brush art, continue learning how to CG, learn how to put on make up (which is a necessary evil ><) and maybe learn how to sketch from life. Oil painting would be SO nice but I think I shall stick to water colours.

tagging: anyone who feels inspired

last note: Utada hikaru's album ULTRA BLUE..... drew^2 so bad said he doesn't like it nearly made me regret buying it!!! hahaha. but I do love the first 5 tracks immediately on listening so no regrets!! and THANK YOU DREW2 FOR THE CORPSE BRIDE SOUNDTRACK!!!!

signing off till next time

'I dreamt that I was composing a symphony....I had gone to my table to begin writing it down when I suddenly reflected: "If I write this part I shall let myself be carried on to write the rest. The natural tendency of my mind to expand the material is sure to make it very long...When the symphony is finished I shall be weak enough to allow my copyist to copy it out, and thus immediately incur a debt of 1,000 or 1,200 francs. Once the parts are copied I shall be harassed by the temptation to have the work performed; I shall give a concert in which, as is sure to be the case in these days, the receipts will barely cover half the expenses; I shall lose what I have not got; I shall want the necessaries of life for my poor invalid, and shall have no money for either myself or for my son's keep on board ship!"...I threw down my pen saying, "Bah! I shall have forgotten the symphony tomorrow." But the following night the obstinate symphony again presented itself...'
- Berlioz writing about a nightmare he had during the 1850s
