mY mass letter!

just sent this letter. Putting it here for the record.

Hi everyone!!

I have some great news!! In fact I feel so good now I decided to write this letter instead of blogging, which is what I usually do. I think emailing is more satisfactory coz people actually reply, versus a blog where I don't really get that many comments.

So, what exactly is the good news? Christine usually complains about her life in Singapore, must be something really worth while ain't it? Well yes it is!! Our JC has emerged champion in a malay current affairs quiz beating the likes of Raffles and Hwa Chong JCs, who have dominated the champs spot for goodness knows how long!! And I'm part of that team!! My contributions are really small, but I'm so proud of our team! Think about it, an entirely non-malay, Malaysian team representing our school! I'm more proud of my seniors, though, they really were the ones who pulled us through!

I guess this item is most likely to be the highlight of my week, and it'll sustain me until the June hols! Been spending quite a bit of time and money on goodness knows what lately, no matter how hard I try to keep track it just seems to slip away..... Also, I finally got a phone line, so once it's activated next Wednesday, I can apply for broadband! Only thing is I'll be going back on the frist of June, so most likely I'll get the application in and ask them to activate my broadband once I get back from my vacation in Malaysia. Think about it, I'm going home for a vacation. Sounds odd, people usually leave home for a vacation....

Let's see, I feel like writing a nice long letter, it gives me great pleasure, so I'll talk a bit about my teachers in school. First there's my Personal Develpoment Group (PDG, it's just a nice name for 'class') tutor, Miss Ma Jialin! She's our chemistry teacher as well, and boy, I love her!! After 3 months of being blur in chem tutorials, I actually understood what was being discussed! She explains it so neatly that I just can't help but adore her. Perfect for spaced out people like me, she's also very supportive.

Next there's my Biology tutor, Mr Clement Ong. During my first three months I desperaetly wished he'd teach me, and now he's teaching me! He gives pretty good lectures, and if he's in a good mood, good for you. However, if he gets grumpy........uh oh!! Beware!! I guess it would be nice if he told us before hand what we're to prepare for tutorials, like what my former Bio tutor Miss Resma (who rocks) did, as given our crazy schedules, we can't possiblly sit down and finish our tutorials at a go. Nonetheless I'm glad he is driving my interest in Bio, and not killing it! Of course it does help that he thinks this year's scholars are a good batch, nothing like a little praise for Malaysian scholars to get me in good terms with someone! :D oh yeah, am I biased....a little.

For Math I have Mr Hong, labelled by my class as the 'nice guy'.He taught me in my first three months, and I really like him. Realise that AJC tutors are really caring towards students in general, and they really go all out to help you with your problems. We Malaysians didn't learn Binomial Theorem last year, and Mr Hong was kind enough to give me a crash course on it. Imagine people sacrificing time to actually help you out of the classroom for nothing extra....

Last of my A-subs is Physics. My actual tutor, Mr Neo, I'll be meeting him next week!! So far I had Mr Ong, a guy freshly out of National Service, nice easy going character who is a former AJCian! Yeah, its nice to gossip as a class with him and hear all sorts of stories. He's also willing to give anyone that extra bit of help, so I guess I know who to look for if i start failing physics and am in desprate need of tuition....Not to mention he was top student of his cohort, something I totally admire, 4 As, 2 S-paper distinctions, student counsellor, geez. Over acheiver.

General Paper is taught by Mr Clement Cheng, and I'm glad I got him, or else I'd be missing Mr Larry Lee a lot more! Mr Larry Lee is the greatest GP teacher (to my opnion, and a few of my friends too) in AJ, but I'm enjoying Mr Cheng's classes as well. He can keep the class in control and does very through discussions with the class. Hopefilly I'll do well enough on my upcoming GP test to prove his teaching methods work well!!

Last but not least I have my MLAO (malay language AO level, a level lower that A level) teachers, Mdm Jamilah (who looks chinese!) and Miss Raudah (in my opinion one of the prettiest teachers in AJ) I like malay, its like my relax hour and at the same time I guess I get lots of perspectives towards things in singapore. If I get my A1 this year I won't take MLAO next year though. It was Miss Raudah who asked us to join the quiz by the way, so thanks to her we'er in line to divide S$500 in cash and S$ 500 in book vouchers!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!! MPH HERE I COME!!! (make way for the book-crazy Christine!!)

Oh just a mention, I bought a book recently, on e I've been coveting since it was mentioned by Benjamin Lo, one of my seniors. The Clash of Civilizations!! I estimate it'll take the forever to read, coz its hard to understand and the printing is small. But its deep!! and its good!!

Okay, I've spent long enough online typing this, don't know why I didn't log off and save my decreasing supply of money, but till I write again guys, take good care of yourselves and Happy Wesak!! Hopefully I'll be able to write a nice long juicy letter about my great Wesak Weekend!!

Love always,
Christine

'I dreamt that I was composing a symphony....I had gone to my table to begin writing it down when I suddenly reflected: "If I write this part I shall let myself be carried on to write the rest. The natural tendency of my mind to expand the material is sure to make it very long...When the symphony is finished I shall be weak enough to allow my copyist to copy it out, and thus immediately incur a debt of 1,000 or 1,200 francs. Once the parts are copied I shall be harassed by the temptation to have the work performed; I shall give a concert in which, as is sure to be the case in these days, the receipts will barely cover half the expenses; I shall lose what I have not got; I shall want the necessaries of life for my poor invalid, and shall have no money for either myself or for my son's keep on board ship!"...I threw down my pen saying, "Bah! I shall have forgotten the symphony tomorrow." But the following night the obstinate symphony again presented itself...'
